Recent years have brought about a new found love of 70s Halloween costumes. For some, the retro hippie look is a reminder of good times and freedom. Others see it as an era of outrageous fashion and hair. Still more find humor in the style. The 1970?s bold colors and unique shapes pave the way for many options when it comes to 70s Halloween costumes. No matter what style you prefer, you can find the perfect fit for your 70s personality!

Hippies were a big, if not controversial, part of the 1970s. Bell-bottom pants and tie-dyed shirts were all the rage. Release your inner flower child with a totally groovy, hippie look. It can be fun to be one with nature, even if it is for only one night out of the year. Do not get too caught up in the lifestyle, though. If you plan to party with friends, I highly recommend you still bathe! http://www.costumecauldron.com/Kids-70s-Hippy-Afro-Costumes.html

Music created in Britain was also big in the 70s. Songs that were popular among the British crowd became a hit in the states as well. So the 70s retro look for Halloween can also include clothing with a certain British flair. One could try and purchase (or reproduce) the style of jacket worn by Sergeant Peppers. You could also grab a guitar, a cool Beatles shirt, and take your 70?s Halloween costumes to a whole new level.

One other option we haven?t yet talked about when it comes to going retro with our 70s Halloween costumes: going ?chic?. We all remember Daphne from the Scooby Doo cartoon; these outfits with bold colors, lots of short skirts, bell-bottomed pants, and neckerchiefs are the perfect retro inspiration for costume creation.

Keep in mind when choosing your particular 70s styled costume there are many places to look for inspiration. From Foxy Brown to Superfly there are all sorts of title characters that one could use to model their 70?s Halloween costume after. Depending on your creativity level, you can draw ideas from, or totally mimic, the style of your favorite celebrity from the seventies.

Obscure references can add an interesting twist to your look. If you want to break away from the over-done, consider an under-represented aspect of the 70s. For example, do you love cheesy B movies? Why not go as a character from your favorite. Maybe you loved George Lucas? THX or the screen adaptation of Michael Crichton?s The Andromeda Strain that released in 1971. Re-watch your favorite 1970s science fiction for inspiration!

When you get the outfit together you?re not exactly finished. All 70s Halloween costumes should be taken to the next level by adding some acting skills to accompany the outfits. What were some common phrases or words that would fit your 70?s persona? You could even add a British accent if it works with the specifics of the outfit. At the very least, you may get some extra laughs. http://www.costumecauldron.com

Have fun designing the details of your 70s Halloween costumes; this is after all one of the most popular decades of the 20th century. With so many strong characters and personalities you?ll find that there are a myriad of options on how best to go retro with your costume. Don?t forget to add the extra bells and whistles of also acting the part. Doing these things can help you go beyond go-go boots and bell-bottoms; you can actually end up with some one-of-a-kind 70s Halloween costumes options. Edited by Hetsil Protage

Dog Halloween Costume Party

Halloween

Wow! What a wild party! All the dogs were dressed in costume & ready to play...there was a vampire poodle, a princess, even one dog dressed as a Christmas Elf! But my fav was the weenie dog costumes...especially little SuzieBell - she looked so cute, even though she was a long haired chihuahua, she still looked hot! She could barely keep her paws off me!! LOL But then she got jealous when I tried to talk to the vampire poodle...hey, I was there to have a good time & maybe make some new friends...SuzyBell was fun to play with, but heck, I was too young for any commitments... I gotta hand it to mom, although there were four dogs dressed up at hot dogs in a bun, I was the only one dressed as a tourist, whatever the heck that is. There was only one dog that showed up without a costume, a Great Dane named Butch...his human escort said they couldn't find one big enough for him...(lucky dog) They even had a photographer there to take our pictures so our humans could further embarrass us by displaying them...what will these humans think of next? But I gotta say, overall, I had a great time! It was nice to get out & socialize with other pups. We all got treat bags & had our own little costume parade. How cool is that?
