How To Make A Mummy Costume Like An Expert
Some people believe mummies were cursed creatures entitled to suffer their whole life here on earth. Their scary decaying bodies wrapped around old and dirty bandages make them popular Halloween figures. These costumes are also easy to make at an affordable price not compromising the scary theme on Halloween. Are you ready to make a mummy costume like an expert? If so, then just follow the four easy steps to complete a mummy costume just like what you see in Hollywood movies:
Step 1- The Mummy Wrap-around Cloth
The most essential part of a mummy costume is their wrap-around cloth or bandages. For this part, you need to look for old white cloth that you can find at your own house or buy from your nearest thrift store. Using that sheet of cloth, soak them in a container with black tea to add for that aged appearance. The coloring process will cause the cloth to look tattered and old. If the resulting color is not enough, you can darken it by soaking the cloth twice. Also, you can repeat the process on particular areas you want to darken.
Step 2- Gathering the Bandages
The next step that you have to do is to cut the dried cloth in long strips of cloth. For more realistic look, the strips of cloth may be stitched into your under suit. The under suit can be any fitting clothes, preferably in white or off-white color. Stitching them directly into the bodysuit will make a durable mummy costume. It will also protect your bare skin from the friction caused by the bandages. You can start from your pants to your shirt, and stitch the bandages into your under suit not too tightly.
Step 3- Setting the Mummy Costume
Since you have directly stitched the bandages in your bodysuit, you will only have to slip on your whole bodysuit with the mummy bandages. This way, it would be easier to remove and dress up again if in case you need to go to the comfort room. Your costume is sturdy enough, and the mummy bandages will not fall off easily. Covering your head is easy. Just wrap the strips of cloth from your jaw going up your head and secure with a vintage safety pin. You can even put gaps between strips of cloth and fish out some of your hair.
Step 4- Applying the Mummy Makeup and other Finishing Touches
For your scary mummy makeup, you can use black face paint to create dark eye circles and white face paint to cover most of your face. To make your makeup look real, you can add oatmeal over your face along with the face paint. Then, sprinkle your costume with a body powder for that dusty and dirty costume. Your shoes can be covered with your old socks, which are also dyed with black tea. Then, your mummy costume is complete- made just like a pro!
