How To Make A Home Made Cowgirl Costume?

I'm 14, and I'm going to a Halloween party with my friends, is a cowgirl too babyish? I have a plaid blouse and a LOT of jeans, no jean skirts please, it's too cold to wear that. Does anyone know where to get a cowboy hat? Or make one? Please help! Halloween is just around the corner.
